Facial cleaning vs Dermapen: what does your skin need?

Both are facial treatments but they work differently and target different goals. We help you understand which one suits you based on your skin type and what you want to achieve.

Facial cleaning vs Dermapen: what does your skin need?

One of the most common questions we get at our aesthetics centre in Sant Agustí is: should I get a facial cleaning or Dermapen? It is a fair question because both treatments improve your skin, but they do it in different ways.

FACIAL CLEANING: FOR EVERYDAY MAINTENANCE A deep facial cleaning is the basic maintenance treatment. It includes makeup removal, steaming, exfoliation, extraction of impurities and blackheads, a calming mask and hydrating serum. The result is immediate: cleaner skin, smaller pores and a brighter complexion.

It is suitable for all skin types, especially combination and oily skin. Recommended frequency is once a month for oily skin, every six to eight weeks for normal or dry skin.

DERMAPEN: FOR SPECIFIC CONCERNS Dermapen (microneedling) is a more advanced treatment. A device with micro-needles creates controlled micro-channels in the skin that trigger natural collagen and elastin production. It is not a maintenance treatment — it is for specific issues: acne scars, dark spots, enlarged pores, wrinkles and loss of firmness.

Results are not immediate because collagen takes time to build. You start noticing improvement around the third or fourth week, with each session building on the last. We usually recommend three to five sessions spaced four weeks apart.

CAN YOU COMBINE THEM? Yes, and it is a fantastic combination. A good facial cleaning prepares the skin so Dermapen works more effectively, and Dermapen boosts the results of your post-treatment skincare routine. But they are not done on the same day. First we do the cleaning, and if the skin responds well, we schedule Dermapen for a later session.

WHICH ONE SHOULD YOU CHOOSE? If your skin is fine but you want to keep it clean and bright: facial cleaning. If you have acne scars, dark spots or notice loss of firmness and want a deeper change: Dermapen. If you are not sure, the first consultation is free. We look at your skin, talk about what concerns you and recommend the best path forward.
